We went to Shanghai’s Indoor Ski Resort
The Shanghai Indoor Ski Resort, named L*SNOW or 耀雪冰雪世界 (Yào xuě bīng xuě shìjiè) in Mandarin, is the biggest of its kind in the world.
Shanghai’s indoor ski resort was awarded the biggest in the world by Guinness Book of Records when it opened its doors back in September 2024. Being the keen skiers and snowboarders we are, we decided to go and check it out! So is it worth all the hype?
First off, it is pretty far away from downtown all the way out in the depths of Pudong, so this is definitely a day trip at least. There are 2 hotels as part of the huge complex, so potentially even a weekend trip! We decided to take the metro which took around 90 minutes from Zhongshan Park, and it is around the same time if driving.
As we came out of the Lingang Avenue metro station we saw the absolutely vast structure that houses the snow, very difficult to miss! For tickets we bought the 4 hour pass, though there are full day passes available. Tickets are of course all linked to your passport. There is a slight discount if you book in advance (contact Eventurus to help with this!)
The ticket price includes rental of warm ski jackets and trousers, and also helmet, boots and skis/snowboard for those hitting the slopes. Gloves aren’t included so be sure to bring your own. After entering, you can queue at the counters and get fitted for all your equipment. There is a changing room available. Then you are ready to go!
There are three slopes all weaving across the huge space, a blue run for beginners, red for intermediates and a black for advanced skiers and boarders. There is a chair lift and even a gondola carrying people to the top! It definitely got busier as the afternoon came, so it’s probably best to get there for opening time to avoid the main crowds.
The slopes were great and we really enjoyed trying out the different runs. The snow is powdery and soft, so good for beginners. One of the hotels, the Shanghai Snow World Hotel, has rooms that offer ski in/ski out, so you can ski straight from your room!
For non-skiers, there are loads of activities. There are different levels throughout the space with a train taking people to the top. Try sledding, exploring the ice cave, snow biking or tubing. There are also places to grab food or coffee while enjoying playing in the snow.
Ski and snowboard lessons are available, including one to one or group classes.
Overall, I would say a trip out to Shanghai’s indoor ski resort is worth it, especially with kids. We had a brilliant time practicing our snowboarding and relaxing with a coffee in the snow. It is pretty impressive inside and there is lots to do, even if you don’t want to ski or snowboard. Within the complex there is also a water park, so you could potentially spend the weekend there trying out everything!
4 hours of skiing/snowboarding is 410rmb on weekdays and 590rmb for weekends. To play in the snow costs around 290rmb and there are family deals normally available. Contact Eventurus to buy tickets or use the mini program 耀雪冰雪世界.
